Training & Exercise Program

  • Training & Exercise Program

Preparedness doesn’t happen by accident—it takes practice. The ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp’s Emergency Management Training & Exercise program helps staff and partners build the skills and confidence needed to respond effectively in real-world emergencies.

Through regular drills, tabletop exercises, and full-scale simulations, the program ensures that everyone—from school staff to district leadership—knows their role when it matters most. These efforts are closely coordinated with a wide range of partner agencies, including the Anchorage Police and Fire Departments, Anchorage OEM, Public Health, the State of Alaska, the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, local hospitals, and others.

By training together before a crisis, we strengthen coordination, improve communication, and ultimately create a faster, more effective emergency response—one that leads to safer schools, more resilient communities, and better protection for everyone in our care.

    Preparedness Days

Preparedness Days is the ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp’s flagship emergency training and exercise event, bringing together school staff and emergency response partners for hands-on learning and practice.

Launched in 2025, this annual event combines classroom training, tabletop scenarios, and full-scale exercises designed to strengthen emergency readiness across the district. Participants work side-by-side with partner agencies—including police, fire, OEM, and more—to address real-world challenges and improve school-based emergency response.

Preparedness Days 2025 will take place June 10–12, 2025 and marks the first of what will become a cornerstone in ASD’s commitment to building safer, more prepared schools.

    EOC Training

ASD’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) conducts quarterly training sessions to keep staff skills sharp and response strategies up to date. These sessions include scenario-based exercises, system refreshers, and coordination drills that ensure EOC personnel are ready to respond quickly and effectively when the center is activated. Regular training helps maintain a strong, reliable emergency response—and supports safer outcomes across the district.
