Service High School is Rilke’s feeder school to continue your student’s German immersion education in grades 9-12. These four years provide students with the opportunity to advance their language skills into even more advanced topics for more mature, older students. All Rilke students are automatically allowed into Service no matter what high school they are zoned for as long as they remain in the German immersion program.
Advantages for Immersion ÅÝܽÊÓƵapps
Continuing the German immersion program allows students the opportunity to qualify for ASD’s Seal of Biliteracy, which recognizes students who have gained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. This Seal appears on your student's diploma as well as their official transcript.
Rilke students who continue the immersion through 12th grade will earn an Immersion Completion Cord to wear at their high school graduation ceremony. There is also a separate German Immersion Completion Ceremony each spring, prior to high school graduation.
Service High School participates in the German American Partnership Program (GAPP). ÅÝܽÊÓƵapps have the opportunity to apply for this exchange program with partner schools in Germany. It includes two weeks living with a host family, then traveling for one week around Germany with your fellow Service classmates. Your host family's student will visit the next fall and stay with you for the exchange.
Just like Rilke Schule, the German department at Service High works in conjunction with the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) to administer the DSD-II European language framework examination, a rigorous exam that if passed proves the German language skills necessary to study at most German universities.
There are many more benefits offered by the district for continuing immersion throughout high school, which can be found on .
