Task 1 does not have general topics. As the Academic and General Training are different the format for both vary.
The Academic will be looking at how well you can describe something you may see in an academic textbook. The subject or topic could be about anything. As you are expected to describe what is presented before you, you will not be expected to have specialist knowledge of any of the subjects. One could argue by not having specialist knowledge you will only describe what is presented and not make assumptions. In task 1 Academic the test taker will be asked to describe a chart, graph, diagram, map, or table, (or a combination of these)
The first task in writing (Academic) involves describing a graph, table, chart or diagram.
- Bar Chart
- Pie Chart
- Line Graph
- Or a combination of any of the above
In General Training, you will be expected to write a letter. And give a response to a given everyday situation. These letters could be formal or informal and may be about any subject. Correct letter formats will be expected in this section.
- Letter to a friend
- Invitation letter
- Apology letter
- Amendment letter
- Complaint letter
