The goal of our after-school program is to reach students who are underperforming academically and provide them with additional support. ÅÝܽÊÓƵapps, who are referred by their teacher and eligible to attend the 21st CCLC program, will receive pre-teaching in math concepts and vocabulary. The pre-teaching method gives students a jump start in understanding math processes by introducing material that hasn’t been covered in the classroom yet. Pre-teaching increases confidence, allows students to better understand the materials presented by their teachers, and subsequently helps improves grades and test scores.
In conjunction with math pre-teaching, students will work with coding and robotics to be introduced to concepts and career fields in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, also called STEAM. Working with a focus in STEAM and bringing in partners from the community prepares students for future careers and opportunities to break the cycle of adversity.
For each semester, students choose a club of interest from the ones offered by the teachers or community members. Previously we have had clubs for sports, art, pokemon, cooking, Native drum making, and music. Club Days offer students a chance to develop another area of interest in conjunction with the math and STEM teaching.
A broad overview of our weekly schedule is shown below. Please note that the blocks scheduled may vary by school site.
